Athenaeum (ath-uh-nay-uhm):

Originally a school in Rome, founded by Emperor Hadrian in 133 A.D. for the promotion of literary and scientific studies. The purpose of the Great Hearts After-School Athenaeum is also to promote learning by offering our students a diverse array of culturally enriching, academically oriented activities.

It’s not “after-care.” It’s After-School Athenaeum.

While our program runs as late as 6:00 PM, we are not an “after-care” program. Athenaeum focuses on the liberal arts and provides students with academic enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom. Our activities and lessons reinforce and extend the lessons learned in your child’s classroom, complementing our mission as a classical, liberal arts institution.

About After-School Athenaeum

WHEN the program runs: The program runs Mondays- Fridays from directly after school until 6:00 pm (including half days) for the duration of the school year, excluding vacations/holidays when school is not in session. Pickup is as early as you wish, but no later than 6:00 pm.

WHAT the program consists of: In addition to a daily supervised study hour, our program features unique, high-quality, culturally enriching activities that complement our mission as a classical, liberal arts institution. (And they’ll be fun. Did we mention fun?!)

WHO can come to Athenaeum: The program is open to students in grades K-4. The Great Hearts Homework Club is available as an after-school option for 5^th-8^th grade students.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES: We want to expose our students to as many culturally enriching and physically diverse activities as we can. Therefore, we occasionally offer special activities at no additional cost. These include activities such as ballroom dance, soccer, painting, cooking, creative writing, martial arts, photography, speech & drama, science activities, athletics, sculpture, Pilates, drawing, architecture, gardening, and music.

Please Note: Great Hearts Homework Club is available as an after-school option for students in grades 5-8

Registration Fee

In addition to monthly tuition, a $200 non-refundable registration fee is required annually in order to reserve your space in the program. This fee is charged once per family per academic year.
